Still the White House

I recently saw a picture of a man on a motorcycle wearing a black t-shirt that said “N-(word) please it’s the WHITE House.” I stared at the picture for a few minutes with my mouth open. A white guy on a motorcycle (sans helmet) with a t-shirt that was so openly racist and offensive on so many levels. People try to pretend that the fact that the United States of America has a President of African descent that racism is dead. I’m sorry to tell those disillusioned people that it is alive and well (actually sick). This is never going to go away until people in this country stop believing the lie that people of African descent are somehow intellectually inferior to people who are not. I’ve said it a gozillion times, when people do something that they know is wrong they look for ways to justify the wrong doing. The way that white Americans of old assuaged their guilt was to convince themselves that Africans were not human therefore the enslavement of them was OK. No matter how good a lie sounds, no matter how much guilt it assuages, it’s still a lie. As far as the man in this insulting t-shirt in the year 2012, if he had the guts to wear that shirt in public, what would he be capable of if no one was looking? Vote people. Please vote in a way that sends the message that this type of behavior is NOT acceptable. I want my grandchildren to grow up in a world where nobody has to tell them “some people will hate you simply because of the color of your skin”. The fact that they’re bi-racial won’t matter. For some people any discernible amount of melanin makes you less than them, and therefore deserving of their contempt. I want a better country for my grandchildren, a better world .
